Business Development Specialist - Infrastructure & Energy

We are seeking a Business Development Specialist for our client to lead origination and project development activities from a Melbourne-based office, with a primary focus on infrastructure, including power generation, decarbonisation, and digital infrastructure. Reporting to the General Manager of the Infrastructure & Energy Division and working closely with regional and international stakeholders, you will play a key role in shaping the division's growth strategy and investment pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in discussions with industry participants, regulators, and advisors to identify new business opportunities.
- Identify and develop potential investment and business opportunities and present recommendations to senior management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with developers, partners, investors, and advisors.
- Conduct preliminary commercial assessments, including high-level financial analysis and identification of key risks and value drivers.
- Support ongoing project development and transaction processes, including due diligence coordination and preparation of internal approval documents.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify synergies and cross-functional opportunities.
- Liaise with international stakeholders to ensure alignment on strategy, investment priorities, and project evaluation approaches.
- Coordinate communication between local project stakeholders and global teams throughout opportunity sourcing and project development processes.
- Support decarbonisation-related projects, including hydrogen, ammonia, carbon credits, and biofuels.
- Conduct market research and generate insights on key sectors and emerging trends.
- Translate market analysis into actionable business development initiatives.
- Provide structured updates and market intelligence to senior stakeholders and global teams.
The Person
We are looking for someone who brings:
- A tertiary qualification in Business, International Studies, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Experience in project development, business development, investments, or a similar role within the infrastructure or energy sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen, including financial modelling and commercial assessment capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse and international teams.
- High-level presentation and analytical skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- A proactive, flexible, and adaptable approach, with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience working in a multicultural or international business environment is highly regarded.
