About the Role
The Paralegal Support Officer operates within a busy legal environment to support solicitors managing administrative law, civil litigation, and tribunal matters. The role involves assisting with court documentation, conducting legal research, supporting litigation processes, and providing high level administrative assistance to ensure timely and effective legal outcomes.
This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing deadlines, and the capacity to work collaboratively with legal practitioners and internal stakeholders. The Paralegal Support Officer contributes to the efficient conduct of litigation and the delivery of high quality legal services within a state government setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide paralegal assistance to legal staff, including drafting routine correspondence and court documentation
- File and serve legal documents in courts and tribunals
- Conduct registry and information searches across courts, tribunals, and relevant entities
- Compile and prepare briefs to Counsel, experts, and mediators
- Assist in the discovery process, including document inspection and preparation of lists of documents under supervision
- Support trial preparation and provide assistance at hearings as required
- Undertake legal research and prepare summaries
- Liaise with Counsel, legal practitioners, expert witnesses, and internal stakeholders
- Maintain accurate file management, bring-up systems, and time recording
- Assist with billing processes in accordance with team requirements
- Undertake administrative tasks and other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements
- Full working rights in Australia
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a high volume legal environment
- Demonstrated experience supporting civil litigation or administrative law matters
- Working knowledge of court and tribunal procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to undertake required criminal history and disciplinary history checks
Highly Regarded
- Experience working within a state government legal or public sector environment
- Working knowledge of administrative law, judicial review processes, or information access legislation
- Familiarity with civil procedure rules and tribunal processes
- Experience with electronic document and records management systems
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment
