About the Role
The APS6 Project Officer operates within a busy project environment to support system reform, planning initiatives, and operational improvements. The role involves preparing business documentation, providing technical and operational advice, coordinating project reporting, and supporting the implementation of new frameworks and processes.
This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the capacity to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders. The APS6 Project Officer contributes to efficient project delivery, risk management, and continuous improvement in a federal government setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project and business documentation, including process maps and system guidance
- Provide specialist advice on new frameworks, systems, and operational processes
- Conduct research and prepare analytical reports to support decision-making
- Prepare draft business cases, executive briefs, and corporate documentation
- Contribute to project quality management to ensure deliverables meet stakeholder requirements
- Coordinate regular project reporting, including status updates and exception reports
- Support full project lifecycle activities, including planning, implementation, and post-implementation support
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project milestones and objectives
- Maintain organised, accurate, and up-to-date records of project activities
- Undertake other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements
- Australian citizenship
- Proven ability to manage complex project tasks under limited direction
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with stakeholders effectively
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to undertake required security and background checks
Highly Regarded
- Previous experience in federal government project or policy environments
- Exposure to Agile methodologies, Scrum, or other project management frameworks
- Experience with corporate systems such as Salesforce, Jira, or other project tracking tools
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively in fast paced, team focused environments
