About the Role
The AO7 Principal Project Officer operates with a high degree of autonomy to provide strategic and operational HR and project management support within a state government service environment. The role supports organisational objectives by leading workforce planning, industrial relations management, and business unit transformation initiatives.
This position requires strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement capability, and the ability to manage multiple complex priorities within a dynamic project environment. The Principal Project Officer works collaboratively across internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver effective solutions while fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, tactical, and operational advice on employment, industrial relations, and workforce matters
- Collaborate with corporate HR and business units to manage organisational structure, establishment, and workforce planning
- Track, monitor, and report on project milestones, risks, and outcomes
- Support consultative arrangements with unions, employees, and employer representatives
- Represent the agency in meetings, forums, and project committees
- Manage competing project priorities to achieve organisational objectives
- Prepare briefings, reports, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders
- Contribute to a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace culture
- Undertake other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in HR management, industrial relations, or project management in complex environments
- Strong communication, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver project outcomes
- High level of attention to detail and professionalism
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Full working rights in Australia
Highly Regarded
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management, Project Management, Change Management, Organisational Psychology, or related discipline
- Experience in state government or public sector environments
- Knowledge of workplace change management, employee relations frameworks, or organisational development initiatives
- Proficiency with project management tools, reporting systems, and Microsoft Office applications
