HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an experienced APS6 level Project Officer to support the delivery of high‑impact projects within a fast‑paced government environment located in NEWCASTLE. About the Role
As an APS6 level Project Officer, you will play a key role in leading and supporting complex project work under limited direction. You'll bring your strong project management capability, critical thinking, and communication strengths to help drive strategic planning, performance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with project coordination, monitoring and reporting against project plans and schedules.
- Draft written material including briefs, reports, business cases and corporate documentation.
- Provide procedural guidance and advice relating to project activities.
- Conduct research and analysis to support project decision‑making.
- Support budget monitoring, procurement and contract management activities.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues and benefits.
- Ensure quality outcomes and deliverables aligned to project frameworks.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with team members to support broader organisational and project objectives.

Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and manage competing priorities.
- Experience delivering complex project work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly in written and verbal formats.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
- Critical thinking and sound decision‑making capability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable
- Qualifications in project management or related discipline.
- Experience supporting large organisational change or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Government administration experience.
- Understanding of project management frameworks and agile methodologies.
