We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to support a major South Australian Government organisation within their Sustainable Infrastructure division. This role will be part of the Engineering directorate, contributing to the delivery of capital projects across the Water Civil, Minor, and Regional portfolios.
These portfolios include a diverse range of projects such as earth bank storages, tank rehabilitation and replacement, and broader asset renewals - critical works that support long-term water security, community infrastructure, and regional resilience.
About the Role
As the Design Manager, you will lead and coordinate design development across multiple project streams. You'll ensure designs meet project requirements, stakeholder expectations, and technical standards while overseeing quality, risk, and compliance.
This role requires a proactive communicator who can confidently engage with internal and external stakeholders, manage challenging conversations, and provide clear, informed guidance throughout the design process.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the design lifecycle for capital projects across Water Civil, Minor, and Regional portfolios.
Coordinate with engineering, project, and operational teams to ensure design alignment and technical accuracy.
Engage confidently with stakeholders and facilitate productive conversations.
Identify and address design risks, constraints, and issues as they arise.
Support project delivery through technical advice and design coordination.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring:
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Confidence to voice opinions, handle difficult discussions, and support decision-making.
Experience across civil or water infrastructure design.
Knowledge of earth bank storages, tank rehabilitation, or tank replacement (highly regarded).
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
