A leading local government organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join its Engineering and City Services division. This role offers the opportunity to influence the safety, efficiency and sustainability of a growing urban transport network while contributing to long‑term community outcomes.
About the Role
The Senior Traffic Engineer will lead complex investigations and deliver high‑quality traffic, transport, parking and public lighting solutions. You will play a key role in planning and prioritising capital works programs, developing concept designs, and providing expert technical advice across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct complex investigations into traffic, transport and parking matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and codes. "Undertake complex investigations into traffic and parking, developing solutions and make recommendations…"
Plan, prioritise and prepare capital works programs for transport-related assets.
Lead Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) studies, including workshops, community engagement and Council reporting.
Provide expert technical advice to internal teams, elected members, government agencies and the community.
Review and contribute to guidelines, strategies and policies relating to transport and traffic management.
Develop concept plans for traffic control devices, parking interventions, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and road safety improvements.
Support senior leaders in delivering infrastructure services and implementing strategic transport initiatives.
Essential Criteria
Degree in Civil Engineering
Extensive experience in traffic engineering
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Workzone Traffic Management - Statement of Attainment
High proficiency with IT systems including Office 365 and GIS
Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret traffic data
Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Standards, Australian Road Rules and traffic control device requirements
Ability to work effectively with staff, management and elected representatives
Strong report writing and concept design capabilities
Initiative, flexibility and a commitment to continuous improvement
Desirable Criteria
Qualifications in Project Management or Asset Management
Knowledge of local government operations
Experience with GIS systems and local road networks
Additional Requirements
Valid, full (unrestricted) driver's licence
Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and medical assessment
Legal right to work in Australia
