- Rate: $60.26 p/h + superannuation
About the Role
The APS6 Technical Advisory Officer provides specialist technical and operational advice on complex or novel issues. The role supports decision making frameworks, policy interpretation, and operational guidelines within a federal government agency. This position contributes to the development of practice guidance, coaching and mentoring staff, and ensuring consistency and quality in decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical, operational, or policy advice on complex issues
- Apply legislation, policy, and operational guidelines to support consistent decision making
- Coach and mentor staff to build capability in technical and operational decision making
- Manage sensitive or complex situations requiring professional judgement
- Liaise and collaborate with stakeholders, delegates, partners, and providers
- Maintain accurate records and prepare high quality written advice
- Contribute to strategic planning, program, and project initiatives
- Support continuous improvement in practices and processes
- Other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen
- Demonstrated experience providing specialist technical or operational advice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to exercise judgement, interpret policy, and make decisions within guidelines
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy operational environment
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to undertake required criminal history and background checks
Highly Regarded
- Experience working within a federal government or public service environment
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy frameworks, and operational guidelines
- Experience contributing to program or project management initiatives
- Demonstrated coaching or mentoring of staff
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organisational skills
