About the Role:
The APS6 Project Officer will provide high-level project management, technical, and operational support to enable the successful delivery of agency priorities. Working under limited direction, the role will manage complex project activities, provide specialist advice, coordinate reporting, and contribute to planning, risk management, and resource oversight. This position is well suited to a capable and proactive professional who can exercise sound judgement, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced federal government environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and documentation in accordance with organisational project management frameworks.
- Provide specialist advice and technical expertise to team members and stakeholders.
- Undertake independent research and analysis and prepare draft reports on project activities.
- Coordinate regular project reporting, including status updates and exception reports.
- Prepare a range of high-quality written materials, including business cases, plans, executive briefs, and corporate documentation.
- Monitor project budgets, review and report on expenditure, and assist with procurement and contract management activities.
- Identify and assist in the management of project risks, issues, and benefits.
- Contribute to quality management activities to ensure project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet stakeholder needs.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project outcomes.
- Support business improvement initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Other duties as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Full Australian citizenship
- Demonstrated experience delivering project coordination or project management support in a government or large, complex organisational environment.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex issues and risks.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing complex briefs and reports.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work with a high degree of independence under limited direction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience working within a federal or state government environment.
- Exposure to project management frameworks, governance, risk management, and budget monitoring.
- Experience engaging and negotiating with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
