About the Role:
The APS5 Project Officer will provide high-quality project coordination and operational support to assist in the successful delivery of agency priorities. Working under limited supervision, the role will contribute to project planning, reporting, research, and stakeholder engagement activities, while applying legislation, policies, procedures, and project management frameworks. This position is well suited to a motivated professional who can manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced federal government environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with project management and coordination activities, including monitoring and reviewing project progress against plans.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of project plans, schedules, and documentation in line with organisational frameworks.
- Provide procedural guidance, advice, and technical support within an area of project specialisation.
- Undertake research and analysis and contribute to the preparation of reports, briefs, and project documentation.
- Support regular project reporting, including status updates and exception reporting.
- Draft a range of written materials, including business cases, plans, executive briefs, and corporate documents.
- Assist with monitoring project budgets, expenditure reporting, procurement activities, and contract management support.
- Support the identification and management of project risks, issues, and benefits.
- Contribute to quality management activities to ensure project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet stakeholder needs.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to achieve project and business outcomes.
- Other duties as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Full Australian citizenship (mandatory to work within the federal government).
- Demonstrated experience in a project support, administrative, or coordination role within a government or large organisational environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage moderately complex tasks.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently under limited supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience supporting projects within a federal or state government environment.
- Exposure to project management frameworks, reporting, risk, or budget tracking activities.
- Experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders on operational or project-related matters.
