A respected Federal Government Agency is seeking a Temporary Senior Policy Officer (APS6) to support policy development, analysis, and stakeholder engagement within a high performing policy team.

- Rate: $60.26 per hour + Superannuation
About the Role:
The Senior Policy Officer will provide critical support to the Agency's policy and strategic initiatives, assisting with research, analysis, and the preparation of high quality policy advice, ministerial briefs, and submissions. The role involves contributing to evidence based policy development, managing policy projects, and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will complete onboarding and induction training and work in accordance with departmental health, safety, and governance requirements.
The ideal candidate will have experience in policy development or research, a strong understanding of government processes, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment. Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of strategic policy advice aligned with government and Agency priorities.
- Prepare high quality policy documents, including ministerial briefs, submissions, and correspondence.
- Conduct research and analysis to support evidence based policy development.
- Assist in managing policy projects, including planning, coordination, and reporting.
- Monitor policy trends, risks, and opportunities relevant to the Agency's work.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in onboarding, induction, and required training.
- Perform other duties as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in public policy, political science, economics, law, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in a policy or research role, preferably within the public sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be an Austrlian Citizen
Highly Regarded:
- Experience preparing ministerial and executive briefings.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Familiarity with APS Values, Code of Conduct, and Australian Government policy processes.
