Canterbury-Bankstown Council is seeking a creative and motivated Communications Officer to join our high-performing Communications team. In this role, you'll help tell the stories that matter - promoting our services, projects and people, and celebrating the diverse community we serve.
About the Role
As a Communications Officer, you'll support Council's communications objectives by developing, implementing and managing targeted communications plans across campaigns, events, programs and initiatives.
You'll collaborate with colleagues across the organisation - from designers and digital specialists to media and community teams - to create engaging, inclusive and effective communications that build trust, connection and pride in our city.
What You'll Do
- Prepare, manage and deliver communication plans for campaigns, projects and initiatives.
- Write, edit and publish content for print, online, media and social media platforms.
- Identify and share positive stories that highlight Council's achievements and community impact.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide strategic communications advice and support.
- Review and edit all written materials to ensure consistency in tone, style and messaging.
- Contribute to proactive and reactive media strategies.
- Analyse and report on communication performance and engagement metrics.
- Assist with media briefings, interviews, photo opportunities and community events.
- Occasionally attend after-hours or weekend events, when required.
About You
You're an experienced communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You're passionate about storytelling, community connection and using communication to make a real difference.
You'll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, marketing or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar communications or media role.
- Excellent writing, editing and content creation skills.
- Strong ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging messages.
- Proven project and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building experience.
- A current Class C Driver's Licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in local government or a communications/marketing agency.
- Photography or videography skills.
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act and council processes.
