 Reports to: Coordinator Safety 👷♂️ | Employment Type: Contractor ⏳
 Contract: 3 November 2025 - 29 May 2026 📅
 Pay: $74.23 per hour 💰
 
 Are you passionate about workplace safety and eager to lead WHS initiatives? Join our Corporate Services team as a Safety Officer and play a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all Council employees and stakeholders. You will champion safety policies, conduct audits, support staff, and help ensure compliance with NSW Work Health and Safety legislation.
 
 What you'll do:
 
- 🛡 Develop, implement, and monitor WHS policies, procedures, and work instructions
 
- 🔍 Conduct regular safety audits and follow up on corrective actions
 
- 📊 Collect and analyse safety data for accurate reporting
 
- 🤝 Collaborate with staff, Health and Safety Representatives, contractors, and volunteers
 
- 🧰 Monitor workplace hazards, PPE use, and emergency response readiness
 
- 📚 Provide WHS training and identify safety training needs
 
- ⚖ Ensure compliance with legislation including NSW WHS Act 2011 and related regulations
 
- 📝 Manage WHS documentation, records, and risk registers
 
- 🚧 Support incident investigations and safety issue resolutions
 
- 👥 If required, coordinate and supervise volunteer programs in line with Council policies
 
What you bring:
 
- 🎓 Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or related field
 
- ✅ Proven experience managing WHS systems and training in a complex work environment
 
- 💬 Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team
 
- 🖥 Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
 
- 🚗 Current class C driver's licence
 
- ⚖ Knowledge of relevant WHS legislation and regulations
 
Bonus if you have:
 
- 🔎 Experience with WHS audits, especially SafeWork NSW Self Insurer Audits
 
- 🏛 Experience in local government or similar environments
