Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

Role Title: Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician
Reporting to: Workshop Supervisor

Purpose of the Role

• Service, repair and maintain a fleet of service vehicles and associated equipment.
• Ensure fleet assets remain operational, safe and compliant with NHVR and Queensland transport legislation.
• Conduct preventative and scheduled maintenance across heavy vehicle fleet assets.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Maintain fleet records, job sheets and inventory information using electronic maintenance systems.
• Participate in ongoing manufacturer and in-house training.
• Provide after-hours on-call support as part of a roster.

Key Responsibilities

• Service and repair heavy service vehicles.
• Maintain pumps, systems and ancillary equipment.
• Carry out fault-finding using diagnostic software and equipment.
• Conduct road tests and performance checks.
• Complete electronic work orders and maintenance records.
• Manage parts usage and inventory documentation.
• Adhere to WHS policies and procedures.
• Communicate vehicle condition and repair outcomes to supervisors.

Essential Technical Background

• Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
• Diesel Mechanic.
• Engineering Tradesperson Level 1 - Motor Mechanic (Heavy Vehicle).
• Experience servicing medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
• Mechanical and electrical diagnostic experience.
• Experience using electronic diagnostic tools.

Highly Desirable

• Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
• Experience maintaining emergency service vehicles.
• Experience with pumps, hydraulics, firefighting systems or specialised vehicle equipment.
• Light vehicle mechanics willing to upskill into heavy vehicles.
