Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

Role Title: Heavy Vehicle Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician
Reporting to: Workshop Supervisor
Purpose of the Role
- Service, repair and maintain a fleet of service vehicles and associated equipment.
- Ensure fleet assets remain operational, safe and compliant with NHVR and Queensland transport legislation.
- Conduct preventative and scheduled maintenance across heavy vehicle fleet assets.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
- Maintain fleet records, job sheets and inventory information using electronic maintenance systems.
- Participate in ongoing manufacturer and in-house training.
- Provide after-hours on-call support as part of a roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Service and repair heavy service vehicles.
- Maintain pumps, systems and ancillary equipment.
- Carry out fault-finding using diagnostic software and equipment.
- Conduct road tests and performance checks.
- Complete electronic work orders and maintenance records.
- Manage parts usage and inventory documentation.
- Adhere to WHS policies and procedures.
- Communicate vehicle condition and repair outcomes to supervisors.
Essential Technical Background
- Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
- Diesel Mechanic.
- Engineering Tradesperson Level 1 - Motor Mechanic (Heavy Vehicle).
- Experience servicing medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
- Mechanical and electrical diagnostic experience.
- Experience using electronic diagnostic tools.
Highly Desirable
- Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
- Experience maintaining emergency service vehicles.
- Experience with pumps, hydraulics, firefighting systems or specialised vehicle equipment.
- Light vehicle mechanics willing to upskill into heavy vehicles.
