HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an experienced APS6-level Technical Advisory Officer to join a leading Federal Government agency based in PARRAMATTA NSW. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified health or allied health professional to contribute to high‑quality, consistent and participant‑centred decision making across complex matters.
About the Role
As an APS6 level Technical Advisory Officer, you will provide advanced clinical, technical and professional advice to support complex and novel cases. Working under limited direction, you will apply critical thinking, expert judgement and an in‑depth understanding of relevant frameworks to guide decision‑making and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing subject matter expertise using a coaching and mentoring approach.
- Delivering high‑quality technical, clinical and operational advice on complex matters.
- Supporting consistency in planning and access decision-making processes.
- Managing sensitive conversations regarding supports and funding.
- Collaborating with stakeholders, partners, delegates and providers.
- Preparing clear, accurate written advice, documentation and record keeping.
- Leading or coordinating team tasks, including workflow management and capability development.

About You
You are a capable, autonomous professional known for strong judgement, clinical reasoning and stakeholder engagement. You bring a proactive and adaptable mindset, thriving in environments with competing priorities and complex information.
Required qualifications (degree/diploma level or above) in either:
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Speech Pathology
- Psychology
- Prosthetics & Orthotics
- Registered Nursing (AHPRA‑eligible)
- Social Work
- Mental Health practice
- Specialist Behavioural Support
- Medico‑Legal Allied Health
- Audiology
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Critical thinking and sound decision‑making capabilities.
- Ability to build positive working relationships and guide junior staff.
- Effective time management under pressure.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Competence using Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
Desirable experience includes:
- Disability, hospital or aged care experience.
- Clinical advisory experience at individual and systemic levels.
- Experience providing mentoring, leadership or oversight of team deliverables.
- Experience supporting complex assessments or decision‑making processes.
