HOBAN Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced Independent Advisor (EL1 level) to support a national advisory body focused on improving outcomes for First Nations people with disability.
This role can be worked from any Client site across Australia.
This is an impactful, part-time opportunity (0.6 FTE / 3 days per week) for a First Nations professional with deep understanding of disability and policy, to help shape high-level advice and influence positive system change.
Special Measure: This role is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
About the Role
As an Independent Advisor, you will provide expert, independent advice to support improved outcomes for First Nations people with disability, contributing to national-level decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and deliver high-quality written advice, reports and discussion papers in plain English
- Support the development of strategic advice informed by research, analysis, and consultation
- Collaborate with advisory council members, reference groups and stakeholders across the sector
- Facilitate meetings, contribute to capacity-building activities, and present insights to diverse audiences
- Build strong relationships and support culturally safe engagement with First Nations stakeholders
- Work within a complex and evolving environment to identify opportunities for system improvement and influence

About You
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
Essential:
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (special measure requirement)
- Strong understanding of First Nations communities and lived experiences of disability
- In-depth knowledge of disability and its impact on First Nations people
- Proven ability to develop high-quality written advice and reports
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships
- Ability to analyse complex issues and provide clear, practical recommendations
Desirable:
- Qualifications in disability, health, policy or a related field
- Experience working in or alongside government or advisory environments
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment
- Strong communication skills, including writing in plain and accessible English
