HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an enthusiastic and detail‑oriented APS4 level Finance Officer to join a high-performing finance team within a Federal Government agency located in DEAKIN ACT. This role is ideal for early‑career professionals building their financial accounting and reporting expertise within the APS.
About the Role
As an APS4 level Finance Officer, you will contribute to financial accounting, reporting, and analysis activities that support effective financial management. Working within established frameworks, you will help ensure accurate financial data, support compliance, and assist in delivering high‑quality reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating financial transaction processing to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Extracting and analysing financial data (including from SAP and other systems).
- Preparing accurate and timely reports and documentation.
- Contributing to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including process mapping.
- Supporting project initiatives by collaborating with key internal stakeholders.
- Responding to enquiries and providing advice to resolve moderately complex finance-related issues.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Essential Skills & Attributes
- A desire to build a career in financial accounting and reporting.
- Accounting-related studies (Commerce/Finance Degree, Advanced Diploma, or similar).
- Basic understanding of accounting principles, reporting standards and the general ledger.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a solutions-focused mindset.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience processing transactions in financial systems.
- Ability to extract and analyse data from SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Experience preparing financial or management reports.
- Exposure to developing SOPs or documenting processes.
- Ability to work effectively with stakeholders on finance or system-related projects.
