APS 6 level Product Owner

HOBAN Recruitment is recruiting for the role of APS 6 level Product Owner on behalf of our client, a major Federal Government agency located in BARTON, Canberra, ACT. This exciting opportunity sits within a dynamic security-focused portfolio and plays a key role in enhancing critical business systems used across Australia and international operations.

About the Role
In this role, you will lead the vision, strategy and development of security-related digital products. You will work closely with internal teams, external partners and IT specialists to improve functionality, streamline operations and support strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:

• Defining and managing product vision, strategy and multi-project roadmaps
• Collaborating with stakeholders to analyse needs and align product direction
• Gathering and prioritising requirements based on business value or ROI
• Managing and refining product backlogs
• Developing detailed feature specifications
• Overseeing end-to-end product development
• Reporting on progress to stakeholders
• Ensuring smooth delivery with IT partners
• Managing product release priorities
• Tracking product performance and driving continuous improvement
• Mitigating risks and roadblocks
• Supporting organisational change management
• Acting as a product ambassador across the organisation

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role
• Strong understanding of Agile principles and practices
• Ability to determine business value for features and functions
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and presentation skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and needs
• Strong analytical and data-driven mindset
• Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving ability
• Experience working in a complex environment

Highly desirable:

• Previous experience within a Federal Government environment
• Understanding of DFAT policies, governance standards and requirements
• NV1 Australian Government security clearance (minimum requirement)
