A State Government department is looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to act as a trusted technical specialist across the organisation. This role sits at the heart of our engineering capability, delivering high-level investigation, design, review and advisory services that support the safe, reliable and sustainable delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure.
You'll provide expert guidance across civil engineering matters, influence standards and design practices, and contribute to future-focused infrastructure outcomes across South Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Risk Leadership
- Champion a proactive safety culture aligned with their WHS framework
- Drive strong adoption of Safety in Design (SiD) principles across projects
- Advise on risk minimisation across the full asset lifecycle (SFAIRP approach)
Technical Expertise
- Deliver specialist investigation, design, and technical audit services
- Provide expert support across civil engineering discipline matters
- Contribute to complex infrastructure design and review
- Ensure Safety in Design is embedded in all engineering activities
- Support capability uplift within the Civil Engineering team
Stakeholder Engagement & Customer Focus
- Provide timely, accurate, and practical engineering advice
- Work closely with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to deliver outcomes
- Support construction, commissioning and operational readiness activities
- Develop and contribute to asset management and maintenance strategies
- Lead or contribute to training sessions and technical workshops
Governance & Standards
- Support development and continuous improvement of engineering standards
- Promote compliance and best practice across projects and stakeholders
- Ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, cost-effective and aligned to asset lifecycle requirements
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify emerging technologies and engineering practices
- Drive innovation and improvement in civil engineering design and standards
- Engage with industry to enhance technical capability and performance
About You
You are a collaborative and technically strong engineer with demonstrated experience delivering complex civil infrastructure solutions.
Essential
- Degree in Civil Engineering
- Strong experience in water infrastructure or major engineering environments
- Proven capability in investigation, concept, and detailed design
- Experience reviewing and auditing designs
- Deep understanding of civil engineering standards, practices, and asset lifecycle considerations
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications
- Engineers Australia affiliation
- Experience influencing technical standards and governance
- Background in complex or critical infrastructure investigations
Additional Requirements
- Current driver's licence
- Willingness to travel (intra/interstate) and work flexible hours where needed
- Ability to obtain required clearances (medical, police, and role-specific checks)
