About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Government Relations Adviser to support a large South Australian public sector organisation during a period of increased parliamentary and ministerial activity.
This role is suited to a confident adviser with proven experience working with Parliament and Ministers' Offices, and a strong track record in preparing high‑quality ministerial, Cabinet and parliamentary briefings. You will operate in a fast‑paced, high‑profile environment where accuracy, discretion and judgement are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Ministerial, Cabinet and Parliamentary Support
- Author accurate, timely and well‑considered ministerial briefs, correspondence, Cabinet materials and parliamentary briefings.
- Analyse complex information and translate it into concise verbal and written advice without altering factual content.
- Provide guidance on document purpose, structure and content, and identify opportunities to improve the quality of written outputs.
- Ensure all ministerial and parliamentary correspondence is appropriately recorded and managed.
Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Respond to enquiries from Ministers' and Electorate Offices, coordinating responses across the business.
- Maintain strong working relationships with government stakeholders while exercising sound judgement and discretion.
- Keep senior executives informed of key issues, risks and emerging matters.
- Manage competing deadlines and progress documents through to approval efficiently.
Governance, Compliance and Risk
- Provide advice on State Government, Cabinet and Parliamentary processes and protocols.
- Apply a risk‑mitigation approach to all outgoing correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, policy and ethical frameworks.
- Maintain effective document management, archiving and retrieval systems for official records.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience dealing with Parliament and Ministers' Offices, including preparing parliamentary briefs and ministerial correspondence.
- Tertiary qualifications in policy, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Strong working knowledge of South Australian Government, Cabinet and Parliamentary processes.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce complex documents with minimal rework.
- A demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- High levels of professionalism, discretion and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Knowledge of utility or large infrastructure‑based public sector environments.
