A large Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced APS5-level Quality Officer to join a high‑performing branch focused on quality assurance, performance insights, continuous improvement, and workforce management across national service delivery operations.
Working under limited supervision, the APS5 Quality Officer undertakes moderately complex work involving quality assessments, legislative and process compliance checks, data analysis and reporting. This role contributes directly to improving service quality and ensuring consistent, evidence‑based decision‑making across frontline operations.
About the Role
You will be reviewing operational activities to ensure alignment with legislation, standards, procedures and best‑practice processes. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply structured guidance to make sound, well‑reasoned assessments.
This position sits within a branch that influences end‑to‑end participant experience through insights, assurance work and continuous improvement initiatives. You will also support capability uplift across the organisation through targeted learning and practice guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply policy and procedural guidance to assess quality, legislative compliance and process accuracy.
- Conduct file reviews and provide clear, objective written reasoning for assessment outcomes.
- Record data and commentary accurately while adhering to privacy and data‑handling requirements.
- Identify participant or organisational risk and take appropriate actions in line with established processes.
- Assist in developing and implementing improvement strategies to support branch and agency objectives.
- Identify best‑practice trends using qualitative and quantitative review methods.
- Mentor and support team members to improve quality and technical correctness.
- Undertake research, prepare reports, and support operational initiatives as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Australian Citizens only
- Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Excellent written communication skills, including accurate data recording
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sound judgement and ability to assess complex issues and draw logical conclusions
- Strong analytical and reflective thinking
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and multiple workstreams
- Ability to take responsibility for outcomes and use feedback constructively
Desirable:
- Qualifications in data science, allied health, public health, disability or related fields
- Experience completing audits or file reviews
- Experience with qualitative data software (e.g., NVivo)
- Knowledge of audit frameworks or quality assurance processes
