A large Federal Government agency is seeking an experienced Executive-level Assistant Director - Workplace Integrity to join their People & Culture function. This is a key leadership and advisory position working across complex employee relations, workplace conduct and integrity matters within a fast‑paced, highly confidential environment.
About the Role
The EL1 Assistant Director - Workplace Integrity works under limited direction and is responsible for coordinating, managing and resolving a broad range of complex workplace matters. The role requires the ability to interpret and apply legislation, government policies and enterprise agreements, while also providing strategic and operational advice to leaders.
The position sits within a high‑performing HR environment and involves leading workstreams, managing risks, overseeing case management activities and representing the organisation in internal and external forums. The role requires independence, professionalism and strong judgement when managing sensitive and high‑impact matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, interpret and apply APS HR legislation, policies and Enterprise Agreement requirements to provide advice and manage complex people matters
- Undertake risk evaluations to determine appropriate responses to sensitive and high‑impact HR issues
- Lead and manage Code of Conduct investigations and case management in accordance with the Public Service Act 1999
- Conduct primary Reviews of Action and case manage secondary Reviews of Action under Section 33
- Manage External Jurisdiction matters in consultation with the Legal Services team
- Review, analyse and maintain HR policies owned by the team, and contribute to broader People & Culture policy reviews
- Analyse case metrics and prepare reports to support executive decision‑making and identify emerging issues
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including representing the organisation in relevant forums
Essential Experience
- Strong understanding of APS HR legislation, policies and Enterprise Agreement application
- Demonstrated experience managing complex and sensitive people matters
- Experience conducting Code of Conduct investigations
- Experience conducting or managing Reviews of Action (primary and secondary)
- Case management experience involving legal or external jurisdictions
- Experience reviewing and contributing to HR policies and governance documents
- Strong analytical capability with experience assessing and reporting on case trends
- Ability to operate autonomously in a fast‑paced, evolving environment
Desirable Experience
- Experience conducting formal workplace investigations
- Strong case management and risk management capabilities
- Excellent research, analytical and problem‑solving skills
- High‑quality written communication, including preparing accurate reports and briefs
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult conversations
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion and ethical behaviour
- Strong stakeholder engagement ability
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations (highly regarded)
