Senior Electrical Engineers

We are currently seeking two experienced Senior Electrical Engineers to join the South Australian Government on a 12‑month full‑time contract, working within the Sustainable Infrastructure - Engineering division. These roles are based in Victoria Square, Adelaide, with an ASAP start.
This opportunity is ideal for engineers with strong technical expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and controls, along with demonstrated capability in design, investigations, technical governance, and Safety in Design. Occasional site visits (around once per month) are required depending on project needs.
About the Role

- Duration: 12 months, high chance of extension
- Hours: Full‑time
- Rate: $68.14 per hour, negotiable
The Senior Engineer will act as an experienced practitioner across Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) matters, supporting the organisation through:
- High‑level technical investigation, design, auditing, and advisory services
- Ensuring compliance with electrical standards, corporate frameworks, and safety systems
- Providing expert input into engineering processes, Safety in Design (SiD), and project workflows
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of SA Water's technical standards
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver safe, effective engineering outcomes
Key Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
Technical Delivery
- Provide specialist investigation, design, and technical audits for SA Water projects
- Lead and advise on Safety in Design (SiD) for electrical, instrumentation, and controls
- Ensure engineering designs incorporate SA Water's SiD processes
- Conduct site audits to ensure compliance with technical standards
Safety Leadership
- Apply WHS responsibilities and promote a strong safety culture
- Support safe design outcomes across the asset lifecycle
- Demonstrate safety leadership aligned with the Engineering Safety Framework
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide timely technical information and documentation
- Liaise with engineering providers, contractors, and vendors
- Support operational and maintenance strategy development
- Identify and initiate value‑add improvements for customers
Team & Culture
- Work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams
- Contribute to technical forums, knowledge sharing, and team meetings
- Support the electrical discipline knowledge base and technical standards
Innovation & Governance
- Review and contribute to SA Water's technical standards and guidelines
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practice
- Recommend adoption of new technologies where beneficial
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Controls Engineering
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligible to obtain by 30 June 2026
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a Subject Matter Expert
- Detailed knowledge of EIC engineering procedures within water or large engineering environments
- Strong experience delivering complex engineering investigations and designs
- Experience in developing or reviewing technical and infrastructure standards
Desirable:
- Experience with concept and detailed design for EIC installations in the water industry
- Exposure to installation and commissioning activities
