Join our team as an EL1 Technical Security Risk Advisor, where you'll lead critical security risk, assurance and governance activities that protect our people, assets and operations.
What You'll Do
In this influential role, you will:
1. Security Risk, Assurance & Governance
- Lead the planning, scheduling and delivery of Security Risk Assessments (SRAs), site audits and physical security assessments across metropolitan, regional and corporate locations.
- Identify threats, vulnerabilities and control gaps - providing expert, risk‑based recommendations aligned to ISO 31000, the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and internal policies.
- Develop, maintain and implement comprehensive Site Security Plans that balance safety, accessibility, inclusion and robust protective security.
- Oversee a national site risk register, ensuring treatment owners, due dates and residual risks are visible and effectively managed, with timely escalation of high‑risk issues.
2. Technical Security Expertise
- Provide authoritative advice on access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, electronic keying, duress systems and supporting network/infrastructure dependencies.
- Design and implement a national testing and assurance regime to ensure physical security controls are effective, compliant and fit‑for‑purpose.
- Prepare detailed assurance reports to validate compliance with PSPF requirements, ASIO‑T4 guidance, SCEC certification pathways and internal technical specifications.
3. Operational Capability, Documentation & Policy
- Develop and maintain practical operational guides, templates and procedures that support consistent, risk‑informed mitigation across the agency.
- Review and enhance existing security policy to address emerging threats, technologies and contemporary service delivery needs.
- Contribute expert insights to security incident reviews, driving organisational learning and system improvements.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management
- Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders including Property, ICT, People Services, Personnel Security, Incident Management and Regional Operations.
- Coordinate work with external providers - including SCEC‑endorsed consultants, integrators, builders and technical contractors - ensuring value for money and compliance with government security requirements.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated experience in physical, technical or protective security within government, large corporate, infrastructure or other regulated environments.
- Proven experience delivering Security Risk Assessments, audits and physical security reviews under contemporary and government security frameworks.
- Strong capability in developing security plans, technical documentation, risk artefacts or operational security procedures.
- Deep knowledge of electronic security systems, integration requirements and infrastructure dependencies.
- Ability to lead complex work programs, manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of certification and assurance reports for senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality written reports confirming compliance with Australian Government Protective Security Frameworks, including PSPF.
