About the Project
Melbourne Airport is preparing for significant future growth in passenger numbers. To support long-term planning and refine the Airport Development Plan. Our client is conducting a Show-Up Profile Intercept Survey to better understand when passengers arrive at terminals, how they travel, and their check-in and baggage behaviours.
This one-week fieldwork project requires a team of friendly, confident Intercept Surveyors to collect high-quality data from departing and arriving passengers across all terminals (T1-T4).
About the Role
As an Intercept Surveyor, you will be the first point of public interaction for passengers entering the terminal. You will engage passengers in short, conversational one-on-one interactions (approximately 1 minute per passenger), while also providing friendly customer service and basic wayfinding assistance.
The information you collect will directly support Melbourne Airport's future infrastructure planning and passenger experience improvements.
This role is ideal for candidates with strong communication skills, customer service experience, and confidence working in fast-paced public environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Approach and intercept passengers in a warm, friendly, and conversational manner
- Work efficiently to achieve high, feasible data collection rates
- Ensure clean, accurate data is recorded for Client's internal analysis
- Assist passengers with basic wayfinding when required
- Operate respectfully and professionally in a busy airport environment
- Follow all airport safety, security, and operational requirements
- Maintain a positive passenger experience while meeting sample targets
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Confidence approaching members of the public
- Friendly, calm, and professional manner
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment
- Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods
- Flexible availability across early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts
Desirable:
- Experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, or field research
- Previous intercept surveying or face-to-face research experience
- Familiarity with airport or travel environments
- Multilingual skills (highly regarded but not required)

Requirements
- Must be 18+
- Full Australian working rights
- Able to work all rostered shifts for the full week
- Attend in person briefing/training
- Airport appropriate presentation and conduct

Availability & Hourly rate
- Hourly rate: $30-$32 per hour
- Candidates must be fully available between the 16 March to 29 March 2026.
- Flexibility is required, including early morning starts as early as 4:00 AM and late-night finishes.
