The Victorian Government Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to recent graduates of the Certificate IV in Cyber Security.

The Department of Government Services (DGS) is working to strengthen our state’s defences against cyber threats and aims to improve the government’s response to cyber incidents. You will be at the forefront of cyber security and placed into one of the following streams:
- Incident response
- Cyber awareness and education
- Threat intelligence
- Governance, risk and compliance
- Security operations.

Who can apply for our Internship?
You are eligible to apply if you:
- Have successuly completed the Certificate IV in Cyber Security at a Victorian provider in 2026 (by 30 November 2026)
- If completed in 2024 or 2025, further relevant education or workplace-based learning must be demonstrated to maintain contemporary knowledge of cyber security (such as tertiary education, security certifications, hackathons, or workplace cyber initiatives).
Evidence will be requested throughout the recruitment process - Can complete a 6-month internship from February to August 2026
- Have relevant rights to work in Australia
- Have not taken a voluntary redundancy from the Victorian public sector in the 3 years up to the program start date.
The positions are full-time (38 hours a week), but we are open to requests for flexible working / part-time.
How the selection process works
The stages of the assessment process, include:
- Applications open (Monday 28 September)
- Applications close (Sunday 18 October)
- Online Assessments (late October – mid November)
- Panel Interview (late November – early December)
- Offers (mid – late December).
You will need to perform strongly in each assessment to progress to the next stage, including application, online activities and interview.
Pre-employment requirements:
Before a final offer of employment is made, preferred candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment misconduct screening declaration and consent form.
- Pre-employment screening will apply to all appointments
- Preferred applicants may be asked to provide evidence of their qualifications
- All preferred applicants will be required to produce sufficient proof of their identify prior to commencing employment with the department
- Employment of successful candidates will be subject to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
