Supporting Stronger Communities: HOBAN’s Ongoing Support with The Salvation Army Project 614

For the 17th year, HOBAN is proud to support The Salvation Army Project 614, a vital community service for people who may not have a support network to rely on.

Recently, HOBAN CEO Alison Watts visited Project 614 to see firsthand the breadth of services provided and to meet the people behind the work, including Richard and Matthew, who help lead on-site operations.

More Than a Meal, a Support Service

At the heart of Project 614 is its café, run by Matthew, which provides breakfast, lunch and dinner to around 150 to 200 people every day. While food is essential, Project 614 offers far more than meals.

The service operates as a welcoming, all-in-one support hub where people can access:

  • Centrelink and Services Australia support
  • NDIS services
  • Mental health and clinician support
  • GP-style health appointments
  • Regular eye and hearing testing

This integrated model allows people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to access immediate, practical support in one place, removing barriers that often prevent people from getting the help they need.

Dignity, Choice and Connection

One of the most powerful aspects of Project 614 is its on-site community shop, where donated items and Christmas gifts are available in a way that preserves dignity and choice. Rather than being handed items, people can select what they need, creating a more respectful and empowering experience.

Project 614 also hosts shared community meals in the Salvation Army Hall, welcoming 450 to 500 people during key times of the year, including Christmas and other important occasions. These gatherings provide not just nourishment, but connection for people who may otherwise feel isolated.

A Long-Standing Commitment to Community Impact

HOBAN’s partnership with The Salvation Army Project 614 reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting strong, connected communities. This visit reinforced the impact that thoughtful, well-coordinated services can have, and why long-term partnerships like this continue to matter.

We look forward to continuing our support of Project 614 throughout the year ahead and exploring further ways to contribute, including volunteering opportunities for our team.
