Student Advocacy Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Student Advocate to join our clients Student Advocacy team for a short-term assignment until the end of June. Reporting to the Manager, Student Advocacy, this role supports students across all campuses by providing independent, expert advice and ensuring impartial advocacy in often complex and sensitive matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage and resolve complex student concerns, understanding issues within the broader University context.
- Support students in identifying achievable outcomes and guide them in self-advocacy to resolve issues informally where possible.
- Provide independent and impartial support to students, ensuring access to non-academic services.
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of student cases and provide data-driven insights and reports.
- Analyse data and prepare briefings on systemic student issues, collaborating with University channels to address concerns.
- Establish and maintain strong networks with academic, professional, and senior staff to effectively advocate for students.
- Liaise, consult, and negotiate with diverse stakeholders on behalf of students while managing sensitive and complex cases.
- Stay up to date with relevant University legislation, policies, and external regulatory standards to provide accurate advice.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and privacy policies in all matters.
Essential Criteria
- A Bachelor's degree with relevant experience, or extensive experience in tertiary education and advocacy, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Strong advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience managing complex cases, including facilitating discussions and negotiating with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues effectively.
- Experience engaging constructively with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures impacting students in the tertiary education sector.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, a Working With Children Check.
