About the Role
As the EL1 level Assistant Director - Economics and Insights, you will play a critical leadership role within a high-profile federal agency. You will drive the development and delivery of economic research and analysis, helping key audiences understand the impact of reforms. This role will require a combination of strategic thinking, stakeholder management, data analysis, and team leadership to achieve impactful outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Informing policy decisions, particularly for pricing and market interventions, using economic research and analysis.
- Supporting the development and implementation of the Annual Pricing Review and Pricing Strategy.
- Reviewing and analysing economic data to support evidence-based decision-making on complex economic and pricing policies.
- Leading the development of provider performance metrics and sector monitoring dashboards.
- Planning and leading ad hoc economic analysis and research requests.
- Working collaboratively across teams and departments, including with other Government Departments and academics.
- Contributing to branch leadership, building a positive and high-performing team culture.

About You:
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Superior analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills to tackle complex economic issues.
- Ability to synthesise complex information and translate findings into succinct policy narratives and advice in plain English.
- Strong leadership and experience managing and coaching high-performing teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships across internal and external networks.
- Expertise in developing and implementing analytical frameworks to monitor policy and program impacts.
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to develop plain English and accessible content that meets diverse audience needs.
- Proven project and resource management experience, with the ability to manage detailed or sensitive projects while adapting to changing requirements.
- A postgraduate degree in economics, econometrics, or a similar field.
- You would come from a background in Economics, Economic Analytics, Economic Policy development.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the Disability sector and its impact on participants, providers, and the wider community.
- Experience working in the Australian Public Service or government sector.
- Skills in issues management and responding to reputational risks.
- Understanding of regulatory and legislative frameworks in a government environment.
