VPS5 - Project Scheduler

We are seeking an experienced Project Scheduler to join our client; a state government department for a two-year fixed term contact. This role involves working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), program managers, and project leads in the planning, creation, and management of detailed project schedules. As the Project Scheduler, you will be responsible for ensuring that complex projects with multiple streams and dependencies are executed on time and within scope.
You will manage schedules that include detailed breakdowns of tasks, sequences, interdependencies, and estimated durations. You will also identify risks and issues relating to project schedules and implement strategies to mitigate these risks, ensuring project milestones are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the major event schedule, including tasks, timeframes, and upstream/downstream dependencies
- Monitor and track project progress and changes against established baseline schedules
- Identify key milestones and report progress to Program Sponsors and committees
- Evaluate progress, forecast potential changes to delivery dates, and assess the impact on dependent activities
- Adjust schedules and reprioritize tasks to ensure critical milestones are achieved
- Align the master schedule with overall project goals and timelines as defined by the sponsor and legislative commitments
- Meet with SMEs, Managers, and Sponsors to discuss progress, slippage, and reforecast requirements
- Identify risks and implement mitigants to minimize the likelihood of risk realization
- Utilize project management software (Microsoft Project or similar) to enhance scheduling and tracking efficiency
Experience & Skills:
We are looking for a skilled Project Scheduler with experience in long-term, complex programs and event management. Ideal candidates should have:
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining schedules for multi-disciplinary programs
- High proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage large-scale projects with multiple streams, interdependencies, and key milestones
- A track record of working with project leads and direct reports to meet tight deadlines
