EL1 Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor

As an EL1 level Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor located in SURRY HILLS NSW, you will play a key role in supporting the Director of Financial Reporting to drive excellence in reporting compliance and process objectives.
You will ensure the delivery of high-quality financial performance and compliance, with a focus on contemporary accounting practices and issues. Your expertise in financial reporting rules, Australian Accounting Standards, and auditing processes will be essential in providing technical advice, policy development, and strategic input to key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop technical accounting position papers and policies in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and Commonwealth requirements.
- Liaise with external auditors (ANAO) on technical accounting issues and audit-related matters.
- Develop strategies and policy positions for the Agency in response to ANAO issues.
- Provide planning and research support for financial statement and year-end audit preparation.
- Offer ad-hoc accounting policy advice as required.

About You:
You are an experienced accounting professional with strong exposure to government accounting frameworks.
You have:
- Senior-level experience in contemporary accounting processes, particularly within a government setting.
- A deep understanding of financial statement auditing and external auditor engagement.
- Expertise in technical accounting policy paper development.
- Proven ability to work effectively with external auditing teams.
Essential Criteria:
- Extensive experience in government accounting frameworks (Commonwealth or State/Territory jurisdiction).
- Senior-level experience in financial statement auditing and auditor interactions.
- Proven ability to develop technical accounting papers and policies.
- Exposure to senior-level auditing processes and external auditing teams.
Desirable Criteria:
- Degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or Auditing.
- Professional accreditation with a recognised Australian accounting body (e.g., CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand).
- 10+ years of experience in senior-level accounting or auditing roles within large organisations.
